Zenit beat Rangers to win UEFA Cup title

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Rangers have failed to land their first European title in 36 years after losing to Zenit St Petersburg in last night's UEFA Cup final.

The Glasgow side were outplayed by their Russian opponents at the City of Manchester Stadium, losing 2-0 thanks to two second-half goals.

Igor Denisov opened the scoring after 72 minutes, with Konstantin Zyrianov securing the trophy with a second in injury time.

Rangers will now turn their attention to clinching the domestic treble in Scotland, where they have already won the League Cup and remain on course for SPL and Scottish Cup success.
