New nursing home standards come into effect today
Wednesday, 1 July 2009
New quality standards for nursing homes across the country come into effect today.
The HIQA regulations will see all private, voluntary and HSE run nursing homes inspected by an independent authority for the first time.
These inspections will be both announced and unannounced and will take place at intervals throughout the year.
Nursing homes will have to comply with 32 specific standards or face losing their permission to operate.
