Wicklow remains confirmed as those of Belfast teen
Friday, 19 December 2008
The Dublin Coroner has confirmed that human remains found in the Wicklow Mountains last month are those of a missing Belfast teenager who was killed by the IRA more than 27 years ago.
Nineteen-year-old Danny McIlhone - one of the so-called Disappeared - was abducted from his home in west Belfast in May 1981.
In 1999, the IRA admitted that it had killed him.
It said he was killed during a struggle with the person guarding him while he was being held for questioning about the theft of IRA weapons.
His remains were found during searches at Ballynultagh in Wicklow last month following two unsuccessful digs in 1999 and 2000.
