Civil servant awarded €60,000 over age discrimination

The 59-year-old man was not recommended for promotion, despite the fact that he was deemed to be well qualified for the job.
The tribunal says the lack of transparency in the civil service promotion process can create an environment where discrimination can exist.
Equality Authority chief executive Niall Crowley has described the ruling as a landmark case for the civil service.
