EU survey highlights benefits of smoking bans
Tuesday, 28 October 2008
An EU-wide survey has found that levels of carbon monoxide in the lungs of both smokers and non-smokers have fallen in countries where smoking bans have been introduced.
The research data was gathered over a period of three years in the 27 EU member states.
Ireland was one of the first countries to introduce a workplace smoking ban.
However, anti-smoking campaigners say many people, including children, are still being exposed to second-hand smoke in private homes and cars.
