Friday, 10 October 2008
The bacterium that causes Legionnaire's disease has been detected at Galway University Hospital.
The Health Service Executive has confirmed that a higher than normal reading for legionella was identified in the hospital's Paediatrics Department last week.
In a statement the HSE says it immediately removed the affected sinks out of service and there is no risk to patients.
The HSE says it is extremely important to stress that no patients have been diagnosed with Legionnaire's disease.
