'Mother' gives evidence at inquest into 1973 baby death

The woman who claims to be the mother of a baby girl found dead in a laneway in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin over 30 years ago, is giving evidence at the baby's inquest this afternoon.

Cynthia Owens told police in England in 1994 that the baby was stabbed with a knitting needle.

Dublin County Coroners court heard today that the post mortem reveals that she died as a result of a number of puncture wounds to the face, neck and chest.

Two young boys found the dead baby in a plastic bag in a carpark in Georges Street in Dun Laoghaire on April 4th 1973.
