Nine men in custody over Coleraine murder
Tuesday, 26 May 2009
Police in the North are questioning nine people following the murder of a Catholic man in an apparent sectarian attack in Co Derry on Sunday night.
Forty-nine-year-old Kevin McDaid, a father of four, was beaten to death outside his home in Coleraine by a gang of loyalists celebrating Rangers' clinching of the Scottish league title.
Another man is also critically ill in hospital after being beaten by the mob.
The attacks were carried by around 40 men who arrived in a Catholic area of Coleraine in a cavalcade of cars.
They were armed with cudgels and baseball bats in what appeared to be a planned attack on random residents.
