Thursday, 14 May 2009
The North has confirmed its first case of swine flu as the virus continues to spread worldwide.
Officials say a man who recently returned from Mexico has tested positive for the H1N1 strain that has killed dozens of people in the Central American country.
The man is recovering at home and responding well to treatment.
One swine flu case has also been confirmed in the Republic, but the patients has fully recovered.
The large number of deaths in Mexico has caused major concern about the spread of the virus, but the symptoms now appear to be relatively mild.
