Omagh spokesman wins prestigious award in Spain
Thursday, 29 October 2009
The main spokesman for the victims of the Omagh bombing has won a prestigious award in Spain in recognition of his campaigning work.
Michael Gallagher lost his 21-year-old son Aiden when the Real IRA detonated a massive car bomb in the Co Tyrone town in August 1998.
He has been at the forefront of the Omagh families' lengthy campaign for justice and criminal charges against those responsible for the atrocity.
He has now been honoured with the Memory, Dignity and Justice Award by the International Centre for Victims of Terrorism in Madrid.
The Omagh families are continuing to push for a cross-border public inquiry to establish how the bombing was allowed to happen and why nobody is in prison in connection with the attack.
