Philip Morris to challenge tobacco display ban
Monday, 5 October 2009
The cigarette company Philip Morris is due to take an action in the High Court tomorrow in an effort to overturn the ban on the display of tobacco products in shops and pubs.
The firm claims the legislation underpinning the ban severely restricts its ability to provide trade and services and breaches the Constitution and EU law.
The ban was introduced in July to make cigarettes less attractive to young people.
Philip Morris claims the move is boosting the illegal cigarette trade.
