70,000 people march for education
Saturday, 6 December 2008
Almost seventy thousand people took part in a protest against education budget cuts.
The demonstration was part of a campaign organised by unions over the last few weeks, with protests taking place in Offaly, Cork, Galway and Donegal, before the national rally in Dublin.
Parents, teachers and students marched through Dublin city centre to highlight their concerns over increasing class sizes and job losses resulting from cuts in language support funding.
President of the Irish National Teachers Organisation Declan Kelleher has addressed the crowd at Government buildings earlier saying "don't blame children, don't penalise children"
