Martin confident of agreement on Lisbon guarantees

Foreign Affairs Minister Micheal Martin says he is confident that the other EU member states will support the guarantees being sought by Ireland before a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty is held.
Mr Martin was in Luxembourg yesterday for discussions with his EU counterparts on the wording of the various legal guarantees on abortion, neutrality and taxation.
A number of EU states are reportedly opposed to the Irish Government's request to have the issues included in a legally binding protocol that would be attached to the next EU treaty.
However, Mr Martin says the other member states want to be helpful and he is confident that agreement will be reached.
