Minister calls for inquiry into attack on UN HQ in Gaza
Thursday, 15 January 2009
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Martin is calling for an international inquiry to be held into the attack on the United Nation's headquarters in Gaza.
The UN compound has been left in flames after an Israel strike earlier, which injured three workers.
Israel has since apologised for the attack, calling it a "grave mistake."
It is understood that white phosphorous, which is an illegal weapon, was used.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has described it as an outrage.
Minister Martin dismissed claims from Israel that it launched the attack because it was being fired on from within the building.
