Six rescued from burning block of flats in south Belfast
Wednesday, 17 January 2007
The six, who included a Chinese family, became trapped in the three-storey building on Eglantine Avenue after a mattress and bundles of paper were apparently set alight in a ground-floor escape corridor.
Most of the victims were rescued from window ledges and needed treatment for shock and smoke inhalation.
The Fire and Rescue Service says there might have been a tragedy if working fire alarms had not been fitted.
