Survey predicts brain drain will follow recession
Saturday, 4 April 2009
A new survey suggests this country will be hit with a brain drain because of the recession.
It shows that a fifth of students due to graduate this summer plan to emigrate because they cannot find work here.
This survey was carried out by the students union at UCC among a random sample of students at the college as well as Cork IT and Limerick University and Limerick IT.
Apart from showing that 20% planned to emigrate it showed that ninety per cent do not have employment lined up when they graduate.
Most were pessimistic for the future with a half feeling they had little chance of finding a job.
50% also indicated they intended to stay in education after graduation.
