Suspended sentence for man with over 400 child porn images

A 58-year-old Dublin man who pleaded guilty to possessing over 400 child porn images has been handed down a suspended sentence.
Noel Gibson of Pine Road, Oldbawn in Tallaght admitted possessing 246 full size and 177 thumb nail images of children between the ages of 6 and 15.
The images were found on a number of CDs found in his house and a mobile home nearby.
Judge Pat McCartan said he had an opportunity to look at the images and described them as appalling. He said they showed very serious exploitation of young people.
In handing down a two year suspended sentence, the judge acknowledged that Gibson had never been in trouble before, and had been receiving treatment in the Grenada Institute for sex offenders.
