The UK Youth Parliament met in Stormont

The average age inside the Stormont chamber plummeted on Sunday as members of the UK Youth Parliament gathered at the home of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

More than 300 young people attended the event inside Parliament Buildings in Belfast.

The Youth Parliament is currently holding its annual sitting at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown - the first time in Northern Ireland.

The four day event, which ends on Monday, has already seen debates on the environment, health, crime and education.

Other issues have included lowering the voting age to 16 and transport provision for young people.

The 11-18 year olds were addressed by Stormont Deputy speaker Francie Molloy.

Youth Parliament member Alex Huston, 16, from Belfast, said: "This time last week the media was full of stories of young people rioting here.

"This week we've had 300 young people at Stormont discussing politics and issues affecting them. It has been an incredible experience and shows how important it is that young people get involved in politics."

Elizabeth Harker, 13, from Poole in Dorset, added: "The visit to Stormont was amazing and a fantastic experience to hear from speakers who gave us truly inspirational messages.

"Young people gaining more understanding of politics is so valuable and it's such an honour to have been given that opportunity."

Whitney funeral showed the true meaning of faith

Given the fact that the Christian faith played such a large role historically in the life of Britain and Ireland in the 20th century, it's not really a mystery that those who advocate what's known as a 'secular' worldview have become so aggressive in recent decades.

Revolution brings Tunisia more fear than freedom

Want to remember what Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali was like? Just walk down the Avenue Habib-Bourguiba – until a few weeks ago still cordoned off by armoured vehicles and barbed wire – and drop by your local bookshop for Z's wonderful Révolution! Des années mauves à la fuite de Carthage.

Do unionist politicians still cherish the link with London?

The Prime Minister David Cameron has set out his stall in support of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. His vision is all for one, one for all - for the Scots, the Welsh, the English and for us across the Irish Sea.

You could die waiting for government to take action

If you thought the cost of living was getting ridiculous and you'd be better off dead, think again. The cost of being buried means it's getting too dear to die. Belfast City Council is putting up the price of cremation at Roselawn Cemetery by a whopping 25%!
