Walking encouraged for World Heart Day
Sunday, 5 October 2008
Around 15 thousand people are taking part in organised walks all over the country today to mark 2008'S World Heart Day.
Cardiovascular disease is still Ireland's biggest killer; nearly ten thousand people die from it here every year.
The Irish Heart Foundation is encouraging people to get out and get active, today in particular.
"There are a number of things that people can do," said spokesperson Tanya Comber. "But one of the easiest ways to cut your risk factor is to get active. You need to get out for a hearty walk, about thirty minutes each day at least three days a week."
