Waste water plants don't meet EU standards
Thursday, 2 July 2009
New figures from the Environmental Protection Agency reveal that over half of all waste water plants do not meet EU standards.
That's despite 90 per cent of areas having adequate treatment facilities and an investment over the past ten years of two and a half billion euro.
Two-fifths of treatment plants either don't use the facilities available to them or fail to conduct enough testing to make their results valid.
The EPA is reminding all local councils that better monitoring is money well spent.
