Zimbabwe run-off vote to take place on June 27th

Friday, May 16, 2008

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission says the run-off vote in the country's presidential election will take place on June 27th.

Official results show opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai won 49% of the original vote in March, compared to 43% for President Robert Mugabe.

Mr Tsvangirai claims he won more than 50%, but has agreed to contest the run-off, despite fears that Mr Mugabe's supporters have been attempting to rig the result.
