Mugabe sworn in for sixth term as president

Sunday, 29 June 2008

Robert Mugabe has been sworn in for a sixth term as president of Zimbabwe.

He was declared the landslide winner of an election in which he was the sole candidate.

The opposition boycotted the race after allegations of violence backed by the state.

Attention now turns to the reaction of regional leaders who are meeting in Egypt tomorrow for an African Union summit.
