Breakthrough made in DR Congo talks

Sunday, 16 November 2008

There has been a breakthrough in talks aimed at restoring peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Rebel leader Laurent Nkunda says he will support a peace process with the government following talks with a United Nations peace envoy.

General Nkunda also agreed to respect a ceasefire and allow aid into the country.

The meeting was called following reports of fresh clashes in the east of the country.

An estimated 250,000 people have been made homeless by the fighting between rebels and Congolese government troops.

Congo needs to protect the natural resources. Desperation will only cause the country to loose focus of what is important. Please note economics is what drives the world. It is not too late for the Congolese people to learn how to use their resources to their advantage. Please re frame from the negative publicity and start reconciling the differences it is very important. Thank you to the Congolese women who came out of the shadows and demanded action. Africa ... we cry because you sell your short every time.
