Chinese leaders under pressure over fuel shortages
Monday, 24 March 2008
China's leaders are facing renewed pressure over shortfalls in diesel and petrol, with lines growing at filling stations there today as the gap widens between surging international crude oil prices and centrally controlled domestic fuel prices.
Shanghai authorities said the city's overall fuel stockpile is stable although private petrol stations in the region are having trouble getting enough fuel.
Four filling stations contacted this morning said their daily diesel shipments were delayed and had not yet arrived.
More severe shortages have been reported by state media in remoter regions, especially in southern China.
