Disease fears following cyclone in Burma
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
The Irish Red Cross has warned there are serious fears about a possible outbreak of cholera and dysentery in Burma.
At least 32,000 people are known to have died since cyclone Nargis hit the south Asian country.
The Burmese military dictatorship initially refused to allow certain countries deliver consignments of food, water and shelter, slowing down the response to the disaster.
The death toll could rise as many affected areas have not yet been reached according to Noel Wardick of the Irish Red Cross.
