Rescue attempt underway to rescue 700 passenger from ferry on fire in Indonesia
Sunday, May 18, 2008
Attempts are being made to evacuate around 700 passengers and crew after a ferry went on fire in Indonesia.
Rescuers have pulled ten survivors from a river outside the town of Sampit - the condition of the other passengers is not yet known.
Inter-island ferries are the main type of transportation in Indonesia, and overcrowding and poorly enforced safety standards cause frequent accidents.
