Six killed and 40 injured in India blast
Sunday, 29 June 2008
A bomb at a crowded roadside market Sunday in India's north-east has killed six people and injured 40.
The explosives were strapped to a bicycle at a busy weekly market in Kumarikata in western Assam, near the Bhutan border.
About 20 of the victims were injured critically, according to officials.
Investigating officers suspected a leading separatist group, the United Liberation Front of Asom.
ULFA is one of several rebel groups that are fighting for autonomy or independence in India's north-east.
Last week, several ULFA commanders announced a ceasefire and called for an end to their 30-year rebellion.
Other factions of the militant group have rejected the truce, and analysts expected violence to flare as the rebel leaders struggled for control.
