At least 21 Afghan civilians killed in NATO air strike
Wednesday, 9 May 2007
The Governor of Helmand Province says NATO called in an air strike when the rebels took shelter in civilian homes during the fighting in the Sangin area.
At least 21 civilians were killed, including several women and children, but no further details about the incident have been disclosed.
Elsewhere, NATO forces have also been accused of opening fire indiscriminately following a Taliban attack on a convoy in Kandahar yesterday, killing one man and injuring two others.
NATO says the victims were caught in the crossfire and has insisted that it does everything to avoid civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, the US military has announced the death of one of its soldiers during clashes with militants in Sangin yesterday evening.
