Ayatollah orders investigation into Iran election
Monday, 15 June 2009
Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reportedly ordered an investigation into claims of fraud in last Friday's presidential election.
The official results have given 63% of the vote to the outgoing President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
However, his main rival, the reformist Mir Hossein Mousavi, has alleged voting irregularities and his supporters have clashed with police during huge protests in Teheran.
The Iranian state media says Ayatollah Khamenei has now ordered the country's ruling Guardian Council to investigate the allegations.
