Mousavi backs away from confrontation in Iran
Friday, 26 June 2009
The main opposition candidate in Iran's recent election appears to be backing away from confrontation with the Government today.
Mir Hossein Mousavi claims he was the real winner of the presidential election and the vote was rigged in favour of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Mr Mousavi had been making regular appearances at major street protests against the election result.
However, those protests have become more scattered as the authorities try to put an end to the unrest.
Mr Mousavi now says he will seek approval for further demonstrations, despite previously calling for people to defy a government ban on rallies.
