Parents demand release of 'hero' Manila hostage-taker
Friday, 30 March 2007
The children were taken hostage by a well-known businessman-philanthropist from a day care centre he operates in Manila's Parola slum.
Armando Ducat Jr, whose actions received countrywide television coverage, demanded better education for the youngsters, whom he freed unharmed after 10 hours.
The authorities are planning to charge him with illegal detention and possession of firearms and explosives.
However, parents of the children say they will have nothing to do with the case and want "Sir Ducat" to be freed from jail.
