Millions more Chinese toys recalled amid safety fears
Thursday, 8 November 2007
Millions of Chinese-made toy beads are being pulled from the shelves after they were found to contain a chemical which can turn into a powerful date-rape drug when ingested.
The items are being recalled in Australia (where they are called Bindeez) and North America (where they are sold as Aqua Dots).
At least two children in the United States and three in Australia have been taken to hospital after swallowing the beads, which are made by Australian firm Moose Enterprises.
They have since been found to contain a chemical that metabolises into a date-rape drug when ingested.
