Australia's east coast hit by powerful storm
Monday, 17 November 2008
Australia's east coast has been battered by a violent storm that has knocked out power to more than 230,000 homes and businesses.
At least one man was swept to his death as the storm hammered a 112-mile stretch of coastline in Queensland state.
Golf-ball-sized hail was reported in some areas, while torrential rain caused flash floods and heavy winds tore the roofs off several homes.
