Scientists say newly discovered planet could support life

Wednesday, 25 April 2007

European astronomers say they have discovered a new Earth-like planet that could potentially support life.

The planet orbits a distant star and has temperatures that mean it could be favourable to the survival of living organisms.

Scientists say temperatures of between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius mean water would exist in its liquid, which is critical to support life.

Models also predict the new planet should be either rocky or covered with oceans.
