McCann's deny strain in their marriage

Wednesday, 5 September 2007

The parents of Madeleine McCann have denied speculation that their marriage is under strain from their 125-day ordeal.

A family friend said the horrendous experience of their daughter's disappearance had, if anything brought Kate and Gerry McCann closer together.

Four-year-old Madeleine vanished from her bed in her family's holiday apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz on May 3 as her parents dined in a nearby tapas restaurant.

The McCanns have remained in Portugal with their two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie since the young girl went missing to help the operation to find her.

In the weeks after she vanished, they insisted they would not return to their home in Rothley, Leicestershire, without her.

But they appear to be gradually accepting that they will have to leave Praia da Luz as a family of four.

Portuguese newspaper speculation that a rift is growing between the McCanns apparently stems from the fact that they attended mass separately 10 days ago.
