Czech court to decide constitutionality of Lisbon Treaty
Tuesday, 25 November 2008
A court in the Czech Republic is due to rule today on whether or not the Lisbon Treaty is compatible with the country's constitution.
The decision will either plunge the future of the controversial treaty into further doubt or leave Ireland increasingly isolated following the rejection of the treaty by Irish voters in June.
The Czech Government supports the document, but the country's president, Vaclav Klaus, has argued against it during the court hearing that is coming to a conclusion today.
Mr Klaus claims the treaty is an infringement of Czech sovereignty.
