Death toll from Italian train blast rises to 20
Friday, 3 July 2009
The death toll from the massive gas explosion in Italy earlier this week has increased to 20 today following the death of another woman overnight.
Several homes were destroyed when a train carrying liquefied gas derailed on Monday night, triggering a huge blast in the town of Viareggio.
Italian officials have blamed the disaster on a broken wheel axle on one of the carriages.
Fifteen people remain in a serious condition in hospital following the tragedy.
