Drug offers new hope to prostate cancer patients
Tuesday, 22 July 2008
Men suffering from prostate cancer are being offered new hope following trials on a new drug.
The preliminary trials have found that Abiraterone can reverse even the most aggressive types of the disease.
The drug could be successful in up to 80% of patients with a deadly form of the disease which is resistant to currently available chemotherapy.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in Ireland, claiming around 500 lives every year.
