EC to scrap bid to ban imperial measures

The European Commission is set to abandon its efforts to get reluctant member states to complete a total switchover to metric measurements.

A vote in the European Parliament today means countries like Ireland and the UK can continue using measurements like pints and miles indefinitely.

Ireland only recently moved to the metric system for measuring road speed and distances.
