England battered by storm

Sunday, 7 September 2008

Rescue teams are still on the ground in parts of northern England worst hit by two days of severe weather.

The storms have already killed five people around Britain.

A quarter of Morpeth in Northumberland is cut off.

Three hundred people are staying in temporary accommodation, most at a local school.

The Environment Agency has warned that the situation in North East England could get worse.

It has pointed out that little can be done when heavy rain falls on urban areas not designed to take it.
