Gazprom accuses Ukraine of blocking EU supplies
Tuesday, 13 January 2009
Russia's state gas firm Gazprom has today accused Ukraine of blocking gas deliveries to Europe across its territory.
The company resumed supplies via Ukraine this morning after the country agreed to allow experts monitor the flow of gas through various pipelines.
Russia had demanded the move after accusing Ukraine of siphoning off European supplies during a price dispute with Gazprom.
However, Gazprom says Ukraine's pipeline system failed to carry Russian gas westwards to Europe this morning and accused Ukraine of keeping the pipelines closed despite the agreement on monitors.
