Police 'exaggerated DNA evidence against McCanns'

Tuesday, 5 August 2008

Madeleine McCann's parents are accusing the Portuguese police of exaggerating DNA evidence gathered during the investigation into their daughter's disappearance.

Newly released police files show a British expert had warned that DNA tests from the McCann's hire car were inconclusive.

Kate and Gerry McCann were apparently named suspects on foot of the tests and their spokesman says police categorically told Mr McCann during interrogation that his daughter's DNA was found in the car.

He is accusing the police of "over-presenting evidence that they did not have, and clearly could not claim to have".
