Rescuers try to save beached whale off English coast
Friday, 1 August 2008
A rescue operation is underway in England today to save a 26ft whale that has become stranded on mudflats in Hampshire.
Firefighters and members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue organisation are trying to help the Northern Bottlenose whale in Langstone Harbour.
The six-tonne whale is understood to be a young adult and has been given just a 40% change of survival.
Rescuers are tying to coax it back it into deeper water.
