UK computer hacker facing US trial after extradition
Thursday, 28 August 2008
A British computer expert, who hacked into top secret US military networks, will be extradited to America to face trial.
Gary McKinnon has lost his last-ditch appeal at the European Court of Human Rights.
The forty-two-year old has always said he did it to find out about UFOs.
But US authorities argue his actions have cost them millions.
Speaking last month, Mr McKinnon said his punishment is too harsh: 'All I've done is log onto computers or I've left really cheeky political diatribes, but I haven't hurt anyone, no-one's hurt, no-one's terrorised, no-one's murdered.''
'Sixty years in prison'! That guy in The Hague is going to get twenty five (years) and what's he accused of?' 'Murdering thousands.'' There's a huge imbalance.''
