UK teens learn about mental health from celebs
Sunday, 7 September 2008
Many British teenagers have admitted that everything they know about mental health issues comes from hearing about celebrities' problems.
New research has found that young people in the UK are largely ignorant on the subject; almost half of 12 to 18-year-olds there can not name a single condition.
Great Ormond Street Hospital also found they don't think schools are doing enough to educate them.
Experts say the findings might explain why young sufferers find it hard to seek help.

Great Ormond Street Hospital has produced an excellent interactive mental health advice website in the 'teens's area of their Children First for Heatlh website for young people aged 12-18. It would be helpful if teenagers were given access to this. The section can be reached in the teens area of: www.childrenfirst.nhs.uk
