US announces deaths of eight more soldiers in Iraq
Tuesday, 29 May 2007
Eight more US soldiers have been killed in Iraq over the past 24 hours, bringing the total US military death toll in the country so far this month to 112.
Two of the soldiers were killed when their helicopter crashed yesterday in Diyala province.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but the aircraft appears to have been shot down by insurgents.
The other six soldiers were killed when their convoy was ambushed as it drove to the crash site.
At least 3,463 US soldiers have now died since the US and Britain invaded Iraq in March 2003 to overthrow President Saddam Hussein.
