Street clashes continue for third day in Beirut

Street clashes between rival gunmen are continuing for a third day in Beirut today amid fears that Lebanon is sliding back towards civil war.
The clashes erupted earlier this week between Sunni Muslims loyal to the US-backed Government and Shi'ite supporters of Hezbollah.
Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah has accused the Government of declaring war on his group when it decided to shut down Hezbollah's private telecommunications network.
During the past few days, Hezbollah fighters have succeeded in closing a pro-government TV station and newspaper owned by Sunni politician Saad Hariri.
At least 10 people have already been killed in the clashes and more than 20 others injured.
