Blix urges diplomacy on Iran
Sunday, 27 September 2009
Iran could carry out missile defence exercises later in a move likely to spark fury among world leaders.
The UK, France and US are already calling for sanctions, fearing Iran's newly-revealed nuclear facility is aimed at producing atomic weapons.
Former UN weapons inspector Dr. Hans Blix says Tehran is doing nothing to allay the West's concerns,
"Already the fact that they're dealing with enrichment and industrial enrichment capability is something that brings them closer to a weapon if they choose to make one and so that increases the tension."
Dr. Blix also said that threatening Iran may not get results,
"They could also promise not to attack them in case they have a deal. The US has done that in relation to North Korea and I don't quite see why the same thing could not be done in the case of Iran. I would maintain that the diplomatic means have not been exhausted."
