Suicide bomber kills at least 25 people in Iraq

Tuesday, 26 August 2008

A suicide bomber has killed at least 25 people during an attack on police recruits in the Iraqi province of Diyala today.

Forty others were also injured when the bomber blew himself up in the town of Jalawlah just before midday.

The police say he ran into a crowd of people queuing at a recruitment centre before detonating his explosives.

Diyala has become a hotbed of militant activity in recent months following an apparently successful local campaign against Sunni Muslim insurgents in Baghdad and Anbar provinces.
