7th anniversary of September 11th attacks
Thursday, 11 September 2008
Today marks the 7th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the United States.
Almost three thousand people died when early that morning 19 Al-Qaeda hijackers took over four commercial airliners and crashed two of them into the World Trade Centre in New York.
A third plane was crashed into the Pentagon and the fourth went down in a field in Pennsylvania.
US Ambassador to Ireland Thomas C. Foley hopes enough time has passed now so that the anger which was palpable for some years has abated.
'Time does heal wounds and so I think at this point while people are still angry about what happened, I think there has been a lot of time for reflection.
'Over time events like this get woven into a country's history and culture,' he said.
